Giving KDE a 3 months try
December 31, 2010 3 Comments
I want to give KDE a try because I am learning about Qt since KDE is based on Qt it would be a great experience to start using it and try Qt applications, I am giving a 3 months try and see what happens, I am gnome user. If you have any tips or tricks would be awesome so let me know. At the end of this challenge I will update my blog and write about my experience with the KDE desktop environment and community.
You should be just fine, KDE has everything GNOME does so is just a matter of get used to it.
I switch to KDE 2 weeks ago when I discover KDevelop and Okular (I needed to open xps files).
Cool, hope to get used to it, I am afriad of KDE 4 I tried some old versions of it and they were a bit slow than GNOME and they were a bit buggy. KDE 3 was perfect but it’s old though.
A few things from a long time Gearhead:
* Learn to love KRunner. Alt-F2, and type whatever application, document or website you are looking for and just … go to it
* Don’t be afraid to fiddle with settings … KDE’s really configurable, and a lot of nice stuff is hidden away in applications’ configurations dialog and the global System Settings configuration dialogs.
* Play with plasma. It’s really nice
